It's been a busy spring at Cornell Farms. We are just starting to get on the land so that is great.  All the calves are on the ground but the mud has been plentiful and the pasture slow to grow. That means that the cattle are in the fields by the barn longer than we like.  Hopefully we can get them out to pasture in the next couple of weeks.

FIRST BORN OF THE YEAR - REMY GORDON DESNOYERS-CORNELL

The big news for 2023 is that Rebecca and Kelsey had a baby boy in February. He even has his own eartag as our first born "calf". What a great edition to our family. Before he was 3 weeks old, he'd already been to Mooretown to see all the Clysdale relatives, attended the Briar in London, Ontario and watched one of his Moms play in a hockey tournament in St. Catherines (Kelsey is a great goalie).

They all flew up for a visit the weekend before Easter so all the Cornell relatives could meet him too. By the time you read this newsletter, he'll have been to Toronto a few times (including riding the Go Train and having lunch with his Uncle Garnet), and watched his Mom play in the provincial hockey tournament in Mississauga. He will be a seasoned traveler before he's a year old. Now we just have to get him to a Farmers' Market with his Grandpa Kim!

60TH ANNIVERSARY OF SELLING BREEDING STOCK

2023 is the 60th Anniversary of selling breeding stock at Cornell Farms. We have a variety of yearling and 2-year old bulls for sale. Visit our website or  youTube page to see photos and videos.

Our photoshoot day was wet and cold but we did have a great time working around the mud. The day includes lots of clipping, combing, and blowing (a giant hair dryer to get the clipped hair off). It's like a mini-spa and quite a production. Pat is always the photographer and videographer. We did 17 yearling bulls this year. We always use music from performers who played in the "Barn" so even if you are not interested in making a bull purchase, check out the videos for a bit of fun.

FAMILY PICTURES.

When we were all together this spring, we had family pictures taken. As you can see, there was lots of laughter and the youngest was the best behaved of all (sleeping).

The top picture is of Gordon and Jeannine with their three great grandchildren. Rebecca's family is on the left and Garnet's is on the right.

THE JANUARY BIRTHDAY CREW - 90 YEARS +

We were finally able to celebrate all the January birthdays now that COVID is somewhat over. We do it every year. We have Cecile (Gordon's cousin and grew up on our farm) at 96; Jeannine at 90; Gordon at 94 and Dorothy (Gordon's sister) at 95. It is always a celebration and lots of fun for all of us!

FARMERS' MARKETS AND OUR ONLINE SHOP

The Thunder Bay Country Market operates every Wednesday and Saturday year-round.

The rest of the markets are starting up throughout the region so be sure to visit us there.  We now have an online store so you can place your orders ahead of time to prevent being disappointed.

EXTRAS!

We couldn't resist adding just a few extra of our favourites from our family photoshoot.

Pat visited her family in Mooretown to help celebrate her mother's birthday. Joanne is 88 years young. All the sisters and Mom and Dad celebrated at one of their favorite restaurants in Sarnia, Ontario. From left to right, it's Marie, Helen, Dianne, Sharon, Joanne (Mom), Earle (Dad), Brenda and Pat.

It didn't take long for Rebecca to get Remy out into the barn and the bottom middle picture is Pat, Rebecca and Remy taking in the Briar in London, Ontario. They were joined by Pat's sister Dianne and her son Matthew.
